We hope that all of our Salmon Arm West families have had a wonderful July and August!! That beautiful sunshine has been very good to us and we look forward to welcoming students back next week. Teachers have been working hard setting up their classrooms and preparing for their new students. Only 5 more sleeps!
Please take a moment to read a few important pieces of information related to start up below.
First Day of School
Grades 1 – 5 students will begin school on Wednesday, September 7 at 8:20am and will be in attendance all day (please note this is a much different routine than we have been used to in previous years – in the past, grades 1- 5 students only attended school until 11:00 on the first Tuesday after the September long weekend). When the Welcoming Bell rings, returning students will line-up at the exterior door of their last year’s classroom and new students will report to the front door and office for an orientation. Students will spend the first day in their last year’s classrooms, so we can determine who has moved away and who has recently registered. Students will be dismissed at 2:20 pm on Wednesday, September 7.
Assuming we can finalize our class placements on Wednesday September 7, Grades 1-5 students will be able to go to their new classrooms on Thursday, September 8. We hope that we will be able to email parents who their child’s new teacher will be Wednesday evening. If that is possible, students will report to the outside door of their new classroom on Thursday September 8. If that is not possible due to needing more time to determine our total enrolment, students will return to their last year’s placement on Thursday September 8 once again.
Kindergarten students will begin their Gradual Entry on Thursday, September 8. Information about Kindergarten Gradual Entry was emailed home last week. If you did not receive this info please email ljegues@sd83.bc.ca and we will follow up.
School Supplies
Families do not need to go out and purchase school supplies for their children. The school has purchased school supplies for each classroom, and families are charged a school supply fee to cover the cost of the supplies used over the course of the year. In preparation for the first day, students will need to have a lunch, a snack, a water bottle, a backpack and a clean pair of indoor runners (with non-marking soles). A School Supply Fee Letter will be sent home as part of a newsletter early in September.
Please do not hesitate to email or call the school at (250) 832-3862 if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a fantastic long weekend and we will see everyone back on Wednesday!
